WHAT IS A NATURAL MAKEUP LOOK?

A natural makeup look is all about enhancing your features without heavy layers of product.

It focuses on creating a flawless yet breathable base, adding subtle highlights, and keeping the overall look light and fresh.

This style celebrates your skin and unique features, making you feel confident and beautiful without feeling overdone.

HOW TO CREATE A NATURAL MAKEUP LOOK

Ready to try your hand at creating a beautiful, natural makeup look?

Here’s a sneak peek at what you’ll learn in an Eezy Peezy class:

  1. Apply mascara first: clean any mistakes you make easily.

  1. Foundation: apply foundation in the centre of the face and blend out. I know you are used to using your fingers but check out my super simple makeup brush kit for the best results. (a little trick with brushes is to make sure the pressure is no harder than a tickle)

  2. Conceal like a pro: forget the Youtuber’s rule of “get a concealer lighter than your skin tone” and try out the decades-old insider secret use an orange/peach toned concealer (mustard/burnt orange for deeper tones and red for dark tones).

Use this along the lash line and watch as you add hours of sleep back to your face.

  3. Bronzed goddess: bronzer is best learned with a powder bronzer.

Put that cream bronzer back in the draw for later on.

Build this slowly and watch your face transform.

  4. Lipstick: Say it with me, “peach-toned, not brown-toned. For our deeper-toned ladies, “terracotta tones over brown-toned, and our dark tones,“ warm browns over cool browns”.

In general, we want to see warmth from our lips.

  5. Brows: The easiest way to get beautiful brows is to have them shaped by a pro and then fill in any missing areas with the lightest touch.

COMMON NATURAL MAKEUP LOOK MISTAKES

You go for a natural look for the office and somehow it always turns into a heavy nighttime look.

Otherwise, you try to do a natural makeup look but it doesn’t end up looking like you even put makeup on in a bad way.

I’ll point out the most common mistakes people make when aiming for natural makeup looks.

NOT BLENDING THE MAKEUP ENOUGH

Can you actually see lines where one product begins and the other ends? You need to blend more.

Does your contour, bronzer and blush look like stripes on your cheeks? You need to blend more.

The way I like to test if makeup is blended enough is to squint slightly and if I can tell where one product starts and ends, then I need to blend more.

The goal of natural makeup is to look like you simply woke up like that or the most requested way clients ask for this is “I want to look like me but better”.

HOW TO AVOID THIS:

Blending is essential to all good makeup looks.

The best way to do this is with a clean makeup brush that is fluffy.

Simply tickle the skin along the lines of the makeup.

The pressure of the brush should be no more than a tickle on your skin.

If you are pressing any harder it will look bad.

Unfortunately blending like this takes a long time, so this is why if you are in a rush natural makeup can be hard to pull off.

USING THE WRONG PRODUCTS AND COLOURS

Natural makeup is meant to look like we aren’t really wearing makeup so the wrong lipstick colour can really throw this whole look out.

Unfortunately, just one product being the wrong colour can ruin the whole look.

When choosing makeup colours, ask yourself do I have that already on my face?

If not, skip that product.

HOW TO AVOID THIS:

Simply buy the Eezy Peezy Makeup beginner makeup kits.

As a pro makeup artist with years of experience specialising in natural makeup, knowing natural makeup colours is like second nature for me.

I realised it's not for the average person though, so I created these kits to remove the stress.

Otherwise, start with low-pigmented products that you can test to see if they look natural and then build on those products with higher-pigmented products of the same colour.

APPLYING TOO MUCH OR TOO LITTLE MAKEUP

Many times in classes with my clients I find they are surprised by either how much or how little makeup needs to be applied.

Many clients say they didn’t realise they needed to apply more makeup than they thought.

I would say this is a common reason makeup can look patchy and like it's not doing what we want it to.

Likewise, if you have ever watched many many YouTube influencers you might be under the impression that the amount of makeup will give the same appearance in day-to-day wear.

Unfortunately, most if not all makeup on YouTube is done under near-spotlight conditions which means the makeup has to be exaggerated to even be seen.

I liken it to learning stage makeup for theatre.

HOW TO AVOID THIS:

Play around with the amount of makeup you apply.

Most importantly, always apply your makeup in light thin layers.

After doing this a few times you will have a good idea of how much makeup you actually need to wear for natural looks.

NATURAL MAKEUP LOOKS FAQs

Q1- WHICH MAKEUP BRAND IS BEST FOR NATURAL MAKEUP LOOK?

Eezy Peezy Makeup is perfect for natural makeup looks because it comes in naturally occurring tones like nude-toned lipsticks and textures like dewy foundation which mimics actual skin.

These are also incredibly easy to blend and buildable so you can get the perfect placement of makeup product and the correct depth closest to natural features.

Natural makeup requires lots of time and skill to perfect, being one of the harder styles to master so having the right products is essential.

Q2- HOW TO GET A GLOWING MAKEUP LOOK?

Glowy makeup looks are best identified as the use of liquid and cream products instead of powders.

The best way to achieve this is to skip the setting or pressed powder after applying a liquid foundation for a glowy skin finish.

Additionally, skip the powder bronzer for your brow pomade as your contour or bronzer and use your lipstick as a blush.

All these steps stop the face from looking flat and matte.

It’s important to mention that glowy makeup can look very beautiful however will highlight uneven skin texture more than matte makeup looks.

Often we see glowing makeup looks in photos that have been highly edited to remove all the texture.

Q3 - HOW TO CREATE A NO MAKEUP LOOK?

I find the best way to achieve a no-makeup look is to focus on blending.

Blend

Blend

And then blend some more!

Add makeup in very light thin layers while blending each layer.
